Broccoli Rabe

Broccoli Rabe Recipes

Broccoli Rabe is a very interesting vegetable as it isn't even broccoli as it's name implies. It is actually a closer relavtive to the turnip. They do, however, both belong to the same Brassica family. It has many names; Rapini (also known as Broccoli Raap, Broccoletti, and Broccoli di Rape. This veggie is said to have a somewhat bitter taste so most people cook it to mellow the taste rather than eating it raw.

Like most of the foods in the Brassica family, Broccoli Rabe is loaded with vitamin C and contains beta-carotene, fiber, and phytochemicals which all play an important role in helping keep our bodies cancer free. There is also plenty of potassium, folic acid, fiber and the flavonoids found in this vegetable that may help prevent the risk of stroke.

Storage and Handling

Store broccoli rabe in a plastic bag in the refrigerator for 5 days (or longer since you will be getting it just picked). Wash and trim just before using.
